Diploma in Automated Insulin Therapy
As part of the latest therapeutic advances in the treatment of diabetes, particularly type 1 diabetes, Drs. Nada Ghorayeb, endocrinologist, and Linda Mahfouz, pediatric endocrinologist, along with Ms. Lisette Azar, specialized nurse, have recently obtained a "Diploma in Automated Insulin Therapy." This training has equipped them with both theoretical and practical knowledge on automated insulin therapy techniques, also known as "closed-loop" or "artificial pancreas." These techniques enable optimal use of insulin through delivery via an insulin pump, thereby improving disease control in patients.
The skills acquired during this training encompass an in-depth understanding of the technical features of continuous insulin infusion devices, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and the various control algorithms. They also include a thorough comprehension of the evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of these systems, validated by scientific studies and clinical trials, as well as mastery of the medical indications and criteria required for their prescription.
Thanks to this training, our team is now equipped to organize, from both medical and paramedical perspectives, the initiation and follow-up of treatments for patients using these devices. Additionally, they can structure the care pathways for diabetic patients, particularly those with type 1 diabetes, taking into account their specific needs and implementing therapeutic strategies that promote acceptance and adherence to automated insulin therapy systems.
