The "Psynéma" Cinéclub of the Psychiatry Department at Hôtel-Dieu de France organized a special screening of the Lebanese film Under the Bombs, directed by Philippe Aractingi. The screening, which took place at the N. and H. Obegi Auditorium, brought together an engaged and attentive audience, including prominent figures such as Mr. Nassib Nasr, Director General of the Hospital Network, Prof. Rami Bou Khalil, Head of the Psychiatry Department, as well as Mr. Philippe Aractingi, the French-Lebanese director, and actors Ms. Nada Bou Farhat and Mr. Georges Khabbaz, along with hospital staff and invited guests.

Under the Bombs is one of the most poignant works in Lebanese cinema, telling the story of Zeina, a mother searching for her son Karim after the July 2006 war. Accompanied by Tony, a taxi driver, she embarks on a journey through a devastated region, offering a profound human experience. The film highlights the encounter between Zeina (played by Nada Bou Farhat), a liberated Shiite woman, and Tony (played by Georges Khabbaz), a Christian from the South, illustrating human unity beyond communal divisions.

Prof. Rami Bou Khalil praised the Psynéma initiative and emphasized the importance of psychological suffering in the human condition:
"Welcome to Psynéma, an initiative by the Psychiatry Department of Hôtel-Dieu de France to raise awareness about mental health and remind us of all that we are all affected by it. In a hospital where we treat not only bodies but also minds, our patients, and sometimes even we ourselves, carry a double pain—both physical and emotional. Through his films, Philippe captures moments of calm and gives them profound meaning.
Under the Bombs is not just a war story, it is an act of resistance."

Mr. Nassib Nasr, Director General, expressed his satisfaction with the impact of this activity on the well-being of patients and staff:
"Welcome, everyone. This is our third activity under the Psynéma initiative, featuring
Under the Bombs. This film evokes events from the Lebanese war, and its echoes still resonate today. Hôtel-Dieu de France has always been there for those who live ‘under the bombs,’ supporting them throughout these difficult times."

Mr. Philippe Aractingi emphasized the importance of the film:
"Coming to see
Under the Bombs is an act of courage, because it is a film that, although painful, offers healing. It raises many questions and reflects a journey we all instinctively take after the war. This film is profoundly truthful, an act of resilience, confronting our wounds now we live them. I thank Hôtel-Dieu de France for screening such a significant work."

Internationally renowned French Lebanese director Philippe Aractingi has won over forty awards at major international film festivals. His films Bosta and Under the Bombs were selected to represent Lebanon at the Oscars in 2006 and 2008.

Following the screening, a roundtable discussion headed by Mrs. Carole Charabaty psychologist at the psychiatry department, took place with Mr. Philippe Aractingi, as well as actors Ms. Nada Bou Farhat and Mr. Georges Khabbaz, who discussed the film's characters, their psychological dimensions, and the poignant messages conveyed by this work.

This event reinforced the Psychiatry Department’s mission to raise awareness about mental health, while providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on the human and psychological realities addressed in the film, in an environment conducive to reflection and cultural exchange.
